To prepare wood for furniture construction, the wood must reach 12% humidity, which is achieved first, by exposure to open air, then, placement in special air dryers. The lumber is then cut, glued, and put through a whole series of processes leading to the construction of the raw piece of furniture.
Most of these operations are still performed by hand, by expert cabinetmakers, keeping alive the ancient Veneto tradition of furniture making. Head, angle and dovetail joints, frames and mirrors made from solid wood slabs, are part of the cultural traditions handed down by the old "marangon" ("cabinetmakers" in local parlance).
These traditions are still found in the details of our products today. Prior to the finishing process, particular techniques can be used to confer an antique appearance, which provides a unique effect and character. Varnishing is applied in several coats.
The process begins with natural water-base shades followed by a special treatment with rubber lacquer that confers to the piece its particular shiny patina.
Finally, as it was done in the old days, a layer of beeswax is applied. This will protect the surfaces from atmospheric agents and wear, and, enhances the aesthetic characteristics of the wood.
